Thursday May 18, 2006 E3 Report: Comic Book Super-Hero Games

With the annual San Diego Comic-Con coming up in just a few months and several huge super-hero movies being released this year and under production for the next few years, the gaming industry is itself jumping into the world of super-heroes at this year’s E3 as well. Although the numbers are small (in comparison to how many FPS games you’ll find), the games are just as unique and just as well made as many other metacritic-toppers out there. This year’s line-up includes Warner Brothers’ Justice League Heroes for the Xbox and Playstation 2; EA’s Superman Returns for the Xbox 360, Xbox and Playstation 2; and Activision’s Marvel Ultimate Alliance for all systems, including Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Sunday May 14, 2006 E3 Hands-On with The Witcher: A Small RPG Looking to Make it Big

There’s a quiet hall tucked away underneath the glitz and glamour, the lights and sound, of the main South Hall filled with all the big developers. Kentia Hall it’s called, and it holds some of the best, and also some of the worst, games at E3. It has become known as the “indie” developer hall and contains a wide variety of young companies looking to get their game out into the world. A developer studio named CD Project working out of Poland has created an enticing new fantasy Role-Playing Game that may just sweep the show floor. It’s called The Witcher, and the demo I was given Thursday afternoon was certainly something the CD Project guys were proud to show off. Thursday May 11, 2006 E3 Report: Grindin' Gears (of War)

I’ve been a bit skeptical recently about the Xbox 360 and its future, given that there just aren’t enough good games being pumped out for it to keep it at its peak. However, I think that may change awfully soon. Epic Game’s Gears of War has been the looming game that many people are interested in but it is still quite a ways from release. I took the initiative to head to the behind-closed-doors press showing of Gears of War and I am thoroughly amazed and excited for its future. Read Full Review on E3 Report: Grindin' Gears (of War)

Wednesday May 10, 2006 A Look At Will Wright's E3 Spore Presentation

The show floor opened up this morning to early-access press only and I headed straight for EA’s booth to check out some of their offerings. In addition to Crysis and Battlefield 2142 playable on the showfloor, there was a Spore presentation being ran by the master Will Wright himself. Here is an overview and some screenshots of what he had to say. Read Full Review on A Look At Will Wright's E3 Spore Presentation

Tuesday May 9, 2006 Arrived in LA

I’ve arrived in LA and am getting a ride soon back over to the hotel. My article about the Sony Press Conference is up on ThinkGaming.org. I won’t have a chance to write up anything about the Nintendo and Microsoft Press Conference, but you can surely find a bunch of headlines about it. I’ll hopefully have some new updates and photos soon! 1 Comments

Tuesday May 9, 2006 Stop Nagging The Motion Sensing!

As the time nears for me to catch a taxi to the airport and high-tale it to Los Angeles for E3, I have to take a moment to make a plea for everyone to stop nagging about “how old” or “how sucky” physical movement sensing in controllers is! In case you didn’t hear, the Playstation 3’s new controller uses motion sensing technology, just like the Nintendo Wii controller. I just read this post on Joystiq about the fact that motion sensing technology was originally introduced in PC peripherals a few years back and that it is “old technology.” In addition I argued with a friend after the Sony Press Conference about how “they aren’t the first to motion sensing technology” and I’ve begun to see this increasing dislike for this gyroscopic technology. Thursday May 4, 2006 Real-Time Strategy Genre Pre-E3 Preview

The world of Real-Time Strategy games is always forgotten when it comes to E3 and the press. In preparations for E3 coming up in under a week, we bring you this look at some of the biggest, and even some lesser-known, RTS offerings. We promise to scout out all of these games at E3 and bring back coverage from each and every one. Read On

I just got an update on my schedule for some Microsoft events coming up at E3. I’ll be heading to some sessions for the Xbox 360 games Too Human and Mass Effect. I’ve been hyped for Too Human since I first saw the trailer for it. Keep checking for any more updates I’ll have in the next few weeks before I leave for LA. Comment

Tuesday April 11, 2006 CMU LAN 2006

Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh houses one of the nation’s top Computer Science schools—and that means plenty of gamers (and maybe geeks, too). Although this is the second LAN to ever happen on the campus, the popularity is rapidly growing and gaining recognition as time goes by. Hosted by the CMU Online Gaming Society student organization, the LAN’s entire day of non-stop gaming was a definite fun-filled 12 hours of never-ending gaming action! Tuesday March 14, 2006 Ctrl-Alt-Del Presents Digital Overload

When it comes to the greatest in web-comics Ctrl-Alt-Del is no doubt one of the first to come to mind. It is always on my daily read list along with countless others. The mastermind creator behind it, Tim Buckley, maintains his own liveliness in addition to creating the comic with his blog posts on current gaming happenings and is revered by many fans world wide. Digital Overload is Ctrl-Alt-Del’s first attempt at hosting a LAN/gaming event and looks to deliver the same excellence that it serves in web-comic form on the web. Friday January 27, 2006 ATI EverLAN Winter 2006

When it comes to LANs, there are only a few in the United States that can push the limits in size, competitiveness, and most of all—fun. Along with QuakeCON, MillionManLAN, and PDX, EverLAN is the LAN from Colorado that has continually hosted increasingly better events since its establishment in 2002. After laying dormant for a year and a half, EverLAN has arisen again to throw its come-back party to start off 2006 with a bang. Featuring a $21,000 Counter-Strike: Source tournament and a never-before-seen-at-a-LAN series World of Warcraft challenges, this LAN in the snow-capped Colorado is determined to throw one hell-of-an event.
